Happy 60th Birthday Mom!

No, this is not an error, the grandkids call my mom Gamma. This was a wonderful lemon cake. I had the same kind at Parker's baby shower. Yum. Parker and Ava sat at the table with forks in their hands waiting to get a piece.
Julia took pictures of the kids. Only one turned out mainly because Parker would not sit still! He had a pocket car in each hand, but he still wanted to go run and play.
Grant and I got her a laptop for her birthday. She hates her current big, heavy one. She does so much for us. She drops everything to come watch Parker or help us with a home project. She has watched Parker one day a week for about 15 months now. We really appreciate all she does for us. If you know my mom, you know she doesn't like receiving gifts, only giving them. It is frustrating to us; she deserves anything anyone gives her.

For her birthday dinner, Cam and I took her to the Melting Pot. I love that place! We loved having it just be the three of us. We laughed a lot.... mainly, because they were messing up my system for eating there. You get a platter of several types of meats to share and they were messing up the order. I made it easy for them, go around in a circle so everyone gets their share. Too hard for them! Cameron couldn't even keep track of what color his skewers were. It really frustrated me, but was really funny. I'm getting my own individual one next time! :)

Happy Birthday Mom!

4th of July

For 4th of July we went to Aunt Sydney's house in Ridgefield, Washington. We went last year and had a great time at the parade. My mom wanted to come along this year. The parade was great and we found a shady spot to stand and watch. We went to Sydney's friend's house for an awesome potluck afterwards and then came home for naps. While the rest of us were napping, Grant went to Urgent Care. His finger had been red and swollen for a week and this day there was a pus pocket. It was lanced and he was put on antibiotics. It was probably caused by the spreading of bark mulch. We then headed over to a friend's house for another potluck/ bbq and to see the fireworks. It was a busy, but fun day!

My mom and Parker dancing to the teenagers rockin' on a float.

Parker was super tired and he missed the very end of the parade to go take a short nap. He loved the trucks and liked picking up the candy they would throw, but he wouldn't eat it.

Grant's birthday was the day before, July 3rd. For his special day, he wanted to go on a long bike ride. He rode up to St. Helens and then back down to Sauvie Island. I think that was about 40 miles. We picked him up there. It was a hot day; 93 degrees. He wore his helmet he got for Father's Day and his biking sandals he got for his birthday. He was sure happy. It's easy to buy gifts for him now; it just has to do with biking. The list of things he needs/ wants is never ending. I am proud of my biker. My mom watched Parker while we went to the Brazil Grill for dinner. It was so good. We then went to see the new Transformers movie. It was not one we would normally go to together, but it wasn't too bad.

Summer Fun

Parker in his outfit Uncle Cameron and Aunt Julia got him in Hawaii.
Showing off his boat.
These are from the Rose Parade.

I love my boys!
Such a sweet face.

Parker can say helmet now. We recently bought a bike trailer so we can go on bike rides as a family. He has his own Sesame Street helmet, but he doesn't like to keep it on for long. The first time we took him in the trailer, he was laughing and saying "Weeee". Very cute. Will have to try to get a picture or take a small video while riding. We biked a couple of miles to the park and to the mall on Sunday and then Grant biked back home by himself to get the van and pick us up. Didn't think I could make it up the hills back.
We went to Cook Park for a Ward Party. He liked digging in the sand, which was really like fine gravel. Yuck.

The hat and glasses didn't stay on long, but they were cute while they lasted.

Some of Parker's new words:
umbrella, airplane, Good Night, bottle, Ernie, Bert, Caillou (show on Sprout), Space ship, sun, star, moon, Earth, Mars, Saturn, atronaut, All done, All gone, monkey (and makes sounds and kind of bounces up and down with his arms at his side), alligator (not perfectly), queen, cone, Zach (said over and over as we came close to day care. Zach is his good friend and Karen's son), shark, fish, cat (and does movements like he is stroking his whiskers), heart, circle, square, apple, balloon, bike, book, hot, elphant, fork, spoon, hippo, horse, key, bakaball or bakabakaball (for basketball), ox, pizza, blanket, slide, fan, color, kick, paper, turtle, hamburger, meow, kite, dunno, pickle, broccoli, glasses, and probably many more I am forgetting.

If I ask him where the letter L is on his talking alphabet toy, he will point to it and say L.

When he watches a cartoon and they ask a question, like "Do you see the matching sock?", he immediately says "no." It makes me laugh.

Last night I was singing nursery rhymes from a Winnie the Pooh book. I sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Parker was singing along. He got a couple of the words right. Star, Are, High. It was so amazing!

Today I was spray n' washing the laundry and he came up to me and said, "What Doin'?" I wasn't sure I heard him correctly and he repeated it two more times until I said, "I'm doing the laundry." He just smiled and turned away. He surprises me all the time of what he can do and say.

He is a happy boy. He loves people. He hates when I picked him up from day care and would run away from me. Made me feel crummy, but I know it's because they have great toys and his friends are there. He loves nursery at church too. He is such an easy going boy. I would love for him to say help or be able to let us know more clearly what he wants or needs, because that is when some whining comes in.

I am so glad school is out for the summer. I love being home with him. I spent last week working on home projects getting ready for my brother and his family to visit. I pruned, painted, steam cleaned carpets, dusted, did loads of laundry, spread bark mulch, planted, watered, power washed, swept, vacuumed, washed windows, etc. Busy, busy, but the majority of my to-do list is already checked off. Having surgery on my feet on the 21st and will be out of commission for a couple of weeks.

Parker is up from his nap and we are off to the Children's Discovery Museum.

Waterfront fun

We went to the Rose Festival and played in the fountain and walked around. Parker liked the areas set up for kids; a play area for toddlers and an area with lots of cool exotic animals.

These bottom pictures are at the Tualatin Commons. He shouts and signs "DUCK!" every time one is near.

Rocket boy

I found this Little Tykes rocket slide on craigslist a couple of weeks ago. We spray painted the red parts to brighten it up and it's ready to go. Parker loves it.

He loves pushing things. If it has wheels, he thinks it should be pushed.
He much rather push something than ride on it.
Look at this sweet boy giving his mommy a flower.

Parker's new adventures

We decided with such nice weather to take a day trip to the beach. It was Parker's nap time and we thought he'd just sleep the whole way there. We got 45 minutes into the trip and he still hadn't fallen asleep so we stopped at the Evergreen Air and Space Museum to let him run around and play on their amazing play structure to tire him out. We went inside to use the restrooms and saw that they had a ride for kids. Parker loves planes and every time he hears or sees one he shouts, "Pane, Pane." He wanted to go on this ride! We were worried since he HATED the carousel, but thought we'd give it a shot. It had straps like a car seat, so I think that made all the difference in making him feel safe. He was pretty serious as he rode it; no giggles or smiles, so we were unsure how much he really liked it. I think he was just tired. When it stopped, he was mad and cried. He rode one more time before we left (and he cried again when it stopped). I felt a sense of pride that he was such a big boy to ride this 10+ feet in the air by himself. I teared up a bit! He fell asleep real quick when we got back on the road.

When we got to the beach we were surprised to see that it was completely foggy and cold. We left 83 degree weather to come to a 60 degree beach. That's Oregon for you! We went to the outlet mall first, hoping it would burn off, but it didn't. Grant forgot a sweatshirt so he found a sweater at Old Navy for $6 and we had to buy Parker a sweat suit because his diaper leaked a bit and his back up clothes were wet and it was too cold for his first outfit of shorts. Next time we'll each take like 4 outfits for a day trip!

Parker has never liked the sand. He doesn't like his hands dirty. That is in the past!
We brought lots of shovels, sifters, and his dump truck. He loved it!I love this boy!
He loved sitting in front of me and shoveling and then flicking it behind him to hit me with the sand. It was everywhere!
Oh, the feeling of sand in your hands!
I love the progression of the following pictures, except the 4th.
Bird!Wonder what this sand tastes like.Gross! Gagging! He tried wiping the sand off his tongue and then more sand got in his mouth and he started gagging.
Back to having fun! No more tasting sand.
That was all we saw of the sun that day. Driving 5 miles east was perfectly blue skies.
What a pair!
